When I read Adam Brown's life story it felt like I was reading my own story. I was a troubled youth, I didn't have a father figure in my life. I lost my father when I was one years old because while he was in Vietnam my own Mother decided to bear another man's child. So when my father came back to the States my mother tried to say it was my father's child! My father was smarter than that.
I was a screw up in school, kicked out of a Catholic School in the 8th grade, then I had to attend public school where I was exposed to drugs. I used drugs everyday. When I was 16 years old I ran away from home and followed a rock band that just broke onto the music scene--the band was called Van Halen.
I returned home after that adventure and was arrested a few times , spent a week in jail for beating another person. My father heard about my escapades and told me the only hope I had was to join the Army which I did. I served with the 82nd Airborne Division 2/504 Recon Platoon. After my military stint I became a Deputy Sheriff in Broward County Florida and did a tour of 15 years and resigned before they could fire me. I was involved in off-duty incidents involving alcohol and I lost my family because of that! I finally came to my senses when I was broke and my sister Lori got me into a rehab--6 months in-patient. I have been sober ever since! So my addictions have cost me things that I loved.
Adam's story is much more important, he rose above all odds and ended up on top DEVGRU / ST 6. I watched a program about him and his caring wife, his rock, and saw his beautiful children and actually cried myself. For a person to overcome his addictions and to rise to the top being a Fearless Warrior had moved me when I read his story. I'm grateful for having read his story because its about the underdog who overcame his weaknesses, his addictions and then he was killed in action! You expect a person like Adam NOT to die but maybe God had a position for him or maybe its the odds in this world of ours! I feel so bad for his wife , his two beautiful children, and the Seal Team community because they lost a very special person. His name is Adam Brown!
